Operating from a base on the shores of Lower Lough Corrib, Brian Curran is an experienced game angler of many years. Whether it is fishing the duck fly early in the season, dapping the natural may fly in the middle of May or fishing in September using the olive or claret bumbles, the great lakes of the Corrib system, Corrib, Mask and Carra are unrivalled for their prolific stocks of game fish. The various methods of angling, the places to fish, the rocks to avoid and whether it is safe to be out in unkind weather, this is the store of local knowledge that the visitor has access to, when using the services of this qualified guide for your angling holiday.
Because of the size of Lough Corrib, stretching over 40,000 acres of limestone waters and its 365 islands it makes sense to make use of the guiding services and avoid wasting time in getting to know such a large body of water and the key fishing hot spots.
During the summer months, from June to September, professional guidance can be given to ensure a successful day’s angling whether it is fishing one of the numerous small lakes of the neighbouring Connamara area for sea trout, small wild brown trout or the chance of a salmon. Brian has leased a number of fisheries from Furbo to Inverin in South Connemara. These were previously only fished by the owner’s family members and were not available to the angling public until now. Some systems like the Crumlin, Owenriff at Inverin or Knockalough on the Knock system are getting improving runs of sea trout, some up to 3lbs and the occasional salmon or grilse. Also , a favourite for beginners to fly fishing / angling is Lough Nualla, a good size lough situated in beautiful surroundings of Connemara bog and wilderness and is a short distance from Spiddal. It holds a large stock of wild brown trout, not big because of poor feeding but eager to take the fly and can be fished either from the bank or from a boat.
Deep sea fishing in Galway Bay for shark, conger, tope or mackerel can be organised from the village of Spiddal with trips arranged to go beyond the Arran Islands and out to the Atlantic ocean.
Also in the immediate area are a number of lakes in the Moycullen area were stocks of pike, roach, perch and bream provide ample pleasure for the coarse angler.
