Yesterday, 21st March 2019, I caught a 8lb 12 oz spring salmon. It was taken on a size 10, Colley Dog fly at the Butt of Fermoyle on the Costello system.
We have had good water levels for the past number of weeks and with high tides it provided the salmon with an opportunity to run the system. Because of their strength and muscle build-up from feeding on rich food in the sea, the fish are well able to move up through the pools and are heading to the top of systems to await the spawning period in late autumn, early winter.
